Puerto Escondido is growing at lightning speeds, which means that the infrastructure is struggling to keep up with demand from Airbnbs, hotels and tourists flooding in. Amid this bustling tourist influx, Casa de la Tierra stands out as an eco-friendly Airbnb that not only reduces its impact on natural resources but also offers a luxurious retreat. Nestled in La Barra Puerto Escondido, the quiet nature filled neighborhood next to La Punta, this Airbnb tree house is a stunning example of sustainability merged with breathtaking beauty, designed to be fully self-sustainable and hidden away in the lush jungle.

Sustainable Practices: Eco Friendly Airbnb Puerto Escondido
Every aspect of Casa de la Tierra emphasizes environmental responsibility. This eco-friendly Airbnb harnesses solar energy to power its entire operation, ensuring that its carbon footprint is minimal. Water sustainability is taken seriously with systems that recycle all water, complemented by two compost toilets and an lovely natural pool. Guests are provided with unlimited filtered drinking water and natural local toiletry products, which enhances the stay while protecting the environment. The structure itself, built from natural and sustainable materials such as bamboo and adobe, features green roofs that blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape.
Don’t be afraid of the compost toilets, they are super easy to use and leave no uncomfortable smell when used correctly. The liquid and solid waste is kept separate and plenty of soil is provided to keep the solid waste covered and dry. I had never used a compost toilet that was so well designed and maintained. And the fact that you don’t have to waste water to use the restroom is incredible.

Artistic touches like design magazines, vintage decorations, and comfortable furniture such as a massive daybed on the third floor—which doubles as an additional king bed—enhance the aesthetic and functional appeal. The home’s open design allows guests to connect with nature intimately, complemented by mosquito nets and natural repellents for comfort and protection. The natural pool is fresh and beautiful, lined by large stones and leafy monsteras and palms.
